Position Overview:

As a leader in Premier’s consulting practice, the Managing Director (MD) / Managing Partner (MP) will lead and oversee operations of a high-performing healthcare consulting practice. This role combines strategic leadership with operational excellence, ensuring that the practice delivers superior consulting services to healthcare clients, drives business growth, fosters client relationships and maintains the firm’s position as a market leader in the healthcare consulting space. In addition, the MD/MP will collaboratively across the organization to leverage Premier’s strategic differentiators to drive client / member value. The MD/MP will play a pivotal role in shaping the practice’s long-term direction, while directly managing a team of consultants, executives, and partners.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership:
  • Develop and execute the practice’s overall business strategy in alignment with the company’s vision and goals.
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for the practice, ensuring continuous growth, profitability, and sustainability.
  • Identify emerging trends and challenges in the healthcare industry and proactively develop solutions to meet market demands.
  • Ensure the practice’s competitive positioning by developing and maintaining innovative, client-focused solutions.
  • Represent the healthcare consulting practice in industry forums, conferences, and external engagements.
  • Client Relationship Management:
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for senior healthcare clients, building and nurturing long-term relationships.
  • Drive new business development by identifying and pursuing growth opportunities with existing and prospective clients.
  • Oversee the development and delivery of high-quality, customized consulting solutions for clients, ensuring satisfaction and value.
  • Lead major engagements and ensure that project teams are effectively delivering results on time and within budget.
  • Operational Excellence:
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the consulting practice, ensuring efficient processes, resource management, and profitability.
  • Ensure that the practice consistently delivers high-quality, evidence-based consulting services in areas such as strategy, operations, digital transformation, regulatory compliance, healthcare policy, and market access.
  • Manage the recruitment, training, and retention of top talent, including hiring and mentoring senior leaders within the practice.
  • Collaborate with other departments (e.g., Commercial, Technology, Marketing, Finance, HR) to leverage all of Premier’s strategic differentiators to drive revenue and create “stickiness” and optimize operational support and margin enhancement for the healthcare consulting practice.
  • Financial Management:
  • Lead the budgeting, forecasting, and financial performance management for the healthcare consulting practice.
  • Ensure that all client engagements are profitable, with clear and accurate financial oversight, including managing pricing strategies, billing, and costs.
  • Work with the senior leadership team to set and monitor financial targets and resource allocation.
  • Team Leadership and Development:
  • Lead a diverse team of consultants, senior managers, and partners, providing direction, mentorship, and professional development.
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performance culture that values innovation, accountability, and client success.
  • Oversee the professional growth of team members, ensuring they have opportunities for training, development, and advancement.
  • Implement talent management practices to attract, retain, and develop top-tier consulting professionals in the healthcare sector.
  • Business Development and Marketing:
  • Lead efforts to expand the practice’s client base, leveraging your network and industry knowledge to secure new contracts and partnerships.
  • Collaborate with the marketing and business development teams to create and execute go-to-market strategies.
  • Identify new service areas or market segments for expansion, driving the evolution of service offerings.
  • Governance and Risk Management:
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory, legal, and ethical requirements in the delivery of consulting services.
  • Manage risk by overseeing the implementation of robust project management, quality assurance, and compliance frameworks.
  • Oversee contractual agreements, partnerships, and vendor relationships.

Required Qualifications

Work Experience:

Years of Applicable Experience – 12 or more years

Education:

Bachelors (Required)

Education & Experience:

  • Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Public Health, or related field (MBA, MHA, MPH preferred).
  • 15+ years of experience in healthcare consulting, with at least 5 years in a leadership or partner-level role.
  • Proven experience in managing large, complex healthcare consulting engagements across multiple domains (strategy, operations, technology, clinical care, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of healthcare policy, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Experience working with diverse healthcare clients, including hospitals, health systems, payers, pharmaceutical companies, and public health organizations.

  • Deep understanding of healthcare systems, emerging technologies, and market trends.
  • Proven track record in business development and client relationship management.

Travel Requirements: Travel 81-100% within the US

Premier’s compensation philosophy is to ensure that compensation is reasonable, equitable, and competitive in order to attract and retain talented and highly skilled employees. Premier’s internal salary range for this role is $195,000 – $361,000. Final salary is dependent upon several market factors including, but not limited to, departmental budgets, internal equity, education, unique skills/experience, and geographic location. Premier utilizes a wide-range salary structure to allow base salary flexibility within our ranges.
